Daily Prompt: My Hero!

Daily Prompt: My Hero!.

I guess I am kind of a little bit of a nerd because when these type of things come up I always look up the word before I answer, so shall we? We shall.

A hero (heroine is always used for females) (Ancient Greek: ἥρως, hḗrōs), in Greek mythology and folklore, was originally a demigod, their cult being one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion.[1] A demigod is the son or daughter from one immortal and one mortal parent, an example would be Heracles, son of the mortal queen Alcmene and the god Zeus. [2] Later, hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice—that is, heroism—for some greater good of all humanity. This definition originally referred to martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.

Thank you, Wikipedia, for that quick confirmation that indeed when the word hero came up I thought of my wife. Now, I understand that she is a woman and so in effect is a HEROINE still she is mine. My wife has been the strong hold I have been able to rely on through these last few years. She is my calm waters and my shelter when the world becomes too much. She is the hardest working, most industrious person I know and she has the drive to be more, do more that you can see from afar. I think, though, that the qualities that make her my heroine are not the upfront strong and obvious ones, but the ones she herself would probably not give herself credit for. Her patience, understanding, caring and love are so beautifully ever-present. Her smile is one of the most genuine I have ever seen and simply having her near me makes me better. I can’t count the times she has picked me up when I was down or held me up when i couldn’t stand on my own.

I love her, and I am thankful for her. She is my hero.

I love her, and I am thankful for her. She is my hero.

My hero just recently started a Pinterest, and it’s awesome because I always like to think of what it would be like to be able to slip into people’s minds and see their thoughts in some sort of library form and that is what Pinterest is! Sheer amazing!!!
