A garden full of snakes.

We took the kids to a science/rock show in Baton Rouge a few weeks ago. It was a well planned weekend that fell apart when we got stuck in traffic on the New Orleans high rise for HOURS – HOURS people!!!

Anyway, we hit that show with a hard plan to make sure that we got all things taken care of so that we didn’t miss a thing. I was desperate to do the craft – not knowing what it was – but that was the last thing planned because we prioritized the kids. Then we found out that it was painting a rock and, unhappy with drying times and the available mediums, we decided just to take our rocks and paint them later.

Later was postponed and postponed until the perfect opportunity set itself in front of us. Happily, that was Easter Sunday. We sat together that evening and painted our little rocks. We loved it. We will be doing more, clear coating them, and setting them in our next garden when God moves us where He will.

In case you wanted more, here is the small video I made about the trip:

#40BagsIn40Days – Day 1, 2, & 3

This is going to be liberating! I am loving it. There are officially 37 days in 2015’s #40BagsIn40Days because Sunday’s are considered “off” days. I have decided to use those last three days to revisit the first three days I am doing. Day one was my shirt drawer, day two my workout drawer and day is my phone files (photos, apps and junk I don’t need taking up space on my phone.) I did this purposefully so that I could get them done, and then in a month and a few days when laundry has been done completely and when I have lived my phone for a while I can re-clean them and be really done!

Pur water is good water.

I’ve been really trying to think about what and how we consume things. My parish doesn’t have a recycle program and I was unable to find anything in our area that we could afford. I hit the road, or Facebook! lol I found out that a local elementary school recycles paper and they were willing to let us bring in our paper. My church recycles plastic and we asked the lovely lady who takes care of that if we could bring in our plastic. Done!

Still I wanted to have access to clean water that wasn’t bottled and I found the Pur at Home Depot. So far, I am good. It installed easy and fast, the water doesn’t taste or smell like chlorine. I am using my quart jar and I am happy! I have to drink two a day to meet my water goal and there is no guilt! Also, while we are recycling I don’t have bags of bottles waiting to hitch a ride to church on Sunday.

You might have noticed.

I have not been posting as much as I like, I am working on a big post from my last Sunday notes AND my house is in a rapid change state! lol IMG_7852My wife and I discovered that we had a leak about a month ago. While the discovery was new the leak was not and I was devastated imagining the cost of repair. My dad came over a week ago and spent some time with her looking into holes cut into closet walls and flushing toilets and running baths… They found the guilty toilet and traced the leaks. God is SO SO GOOD! We have spent about fourteen dollars and our leak should be a thing of the future! Now, while the cost of the leak is next to nothing the time/labor cost is a twee steep. Luckily my amazing wife has become really adept at getting into the muck and figuring it out.

Now, to offer a huge THANK GOD also for the fact that we have two bathrooms. More than a family NEEDS, but such a blessing!

Down the rabbit hole!

Guys you may have noticed a theme emerging lately. Natural, hippie, crunchy… I don’t know. I know I’m not giving up Walmart or hair dye, I know I’m not weaving my own cloth or going vegan. Thing is, I just want to make things better. Find a balance. I am working through what will work and what wont for our family. To aid in that I started a new blog. I am NOT blogging there instead of here, I am blogging there and here.

Hold The Granola - just a halfway hippie figuring things out!
Hold The Granola – just a halfway hippie figuring things out!

Here is more for the this is life, this is what happened, these are my thoughts. God, homeschool, wife, mother, artist, cook, lover – person. Me being me and blogging while I do. Hold The Granola is more about the process, the detail, the gross or the TMI of it all. A good example and what will be taking up a lot of time over there right now will be reducing our waste – I will of course talk about that here as it changes and comes along, but over there the raw details will be. You know, lady waste and bathroom waste and all that. Here you will get the glossed over, there you will get the spilled and messy. I admit now that it will be trial and error, try and fail. I know and I look forward to it. I’m excited, even though I feel a little crazy.

Home ~ where the ♥ is..., I'm sick.

There goes the plan!

lol This year was the year that EVERYTHING was to change! We were ready, amped and on the way to starting our year AHEAD of the game! The girls and I had a plan. We had a schedule of classes and bunch of list to stay on track. We were going to hit the ground running, and then… Then my oldest had three doctor appointments during the first week, and then she got sick and had to go back the second week. Now, now I am sick and life is a detached, airy, strange movie playing in front of my eyes. My kids are old enough to compensate for my medicine head, but still we are not over reaching. The plan was to get ahead in the first months so that field trips and all that wouldn’t put us behind. Instead we are just keeping up!

While wading through the medicine cabinet that, let’s be honest, only gets straightened up once a year, I decided to go ahead and prep for cold season by straightening it out and tossing the old items. Finally, while it sucks to be sick I am blessed to have children who adore me and take such great care of me and the sweetest puppy in the world to snuggle and share my pillow as I lay ill.

Playing house Tetris, again.

You know, when you shift – beep, beep, beep – and flip – beep, beep, beep – until things fit just right! That’s what we have been doing and finally we had to go outside the homeland and buy a couch. Need is a strange word, clearly I don’t need a couch the way I need air or food. Clearly, but space is at a premium in this house with the animals and what with the kids becoming little grownups. Anywho, we just could not give up a whole half the house to a couch so the sectional had to leave. The wife picked up a sofa for fifty bucks a year ago when she was working out of town and sleeping in the office so we decided to bring it into the living room and we gave our sectional away. Yep, gave it and it felt great!

Only it wasn’t long until I realized that the one, old and not very comfy couch was not going to work as the only place to sit in the whole house. Nope. We gave that one away and we started looking and it became clear that what we needed was the comfort and size of a sectional when we were using it and then the compactness of the a smaller couch when not in use. Fold-able couch? That sound a lot like a reclining couch! One huge part of redefining the space in our front room is now complete!
